The World Trade Center Tacoma announced Seattle-based BabyLegs LLC as the 2008 Marco Polo Award winner at its 15th annual awards dinner on Feb. 7. The award, along with the Globe Award, is given to a business that makes a significant impact on the world of international trade.BabyLegs was started in 2005 by Nicole Donnelly. Its products are now sold in retail stores in 50 countries on five continents, including 1,200 retailers in the United States. The company has sold more than 1 million pairs of its arm and leg warmers. At the awards event, BabyLegs gave the 500 WTC gala attendees a pair of its Marco and Polo BabyLegs, styles created for the event.
BabyLegs was also recognized for its community involvement on a local and global scale. Employees are encouraged to live a sustainable lifestyle, work remotely from home, carpool to work or use biodiesel fuel; the company also regularly sponsors, fundraises and donates product to organizations such as Children's Hospital, the Ronald MacDonald House, various women's and children's non-profit organizations, and a university in Uganda.
